This Tuesday, we launched the 15th annual Ubisoft Game Lab Competition.
This year, a record 26 teams entered the competition. This means 206 students from 13 universities across Quebec will compete for prizes, grants, and the coveted title of Best Prototype, marking the highest participation since the competition’s inception in 2011.
Pierre-Jules Tremblay, managing director of Ubisoft Montréal, has the honor of chairing the jury for this new cohort. At the launch, he revealed to participants the theme, mandate and constraints that will guide the teams over the next 10 weeks.
“This year, we picked Action/Reaction as the theme because it really takes us back to the basics of video games and shows what we do best as developers. We want to highlight how players’ actions impact the environment, NPCs, and other players. We’re super excited to see what these bright minds come up with.” – Pierre-Jules Tremblay
During the 10-week challenge, each team will count on the support of two mentors. So 52 of our colleagues from Ubisoft’s four Quebec studios have answered the call for mentors.
At the end of the 10 weeks, the teams will come to the Montreal studio to present their prototype not only to the jury, but also to all studio employees wishing to interact with the next generation of developers or simply have a good time playing.
Our jury will evaluate each prototype, and the winners will be announced at the gala on May 1. We’ll be giving away nine prizes and $22,000 in grants. Ubisoft will also offer internships and/or jobs to at least 10 standout participants.
Good luck to everyone, and may the best prototype win!
