Rusted Minds wins grand prize at Ubisoft’s Game Lab Competition

Last Thursday night, the 166 participants of the 11th edition of the Game Lab Competition reunited virtually to celebrate their achievements at the annual awards gala.

Here is an overview of all the prototypes presented this year:

After presenting their prototypes to the jury remotely, the teams were excited to finally learn who won what in the 8 categories. Among the 21 prototypes, Rusted Minds by UQAT Montréal and the École de technologie supérieure, won the highest honour in the Best Game Prototype category, a prize that includes an $8,000 scholarship.

The game features 2 magnetic robots that dream of becoming human. To make their most heartfelt wish come true, they must work together and make their way through the challenging puzzles of a deserted steampunk factory.

The 21 teams from 11 universities across the province had 10 weeks to build a game prototype with the theme “Apart // Together”, under the guidance the 42 mentors from the 3 Ubisoft studios in Quebec (Montreal, Quebec and Saguenay).  A heartfelt thanks to our fellow mentors who supported these young people through this adventure, which included an additional challenge this year: doing it all remotely.
