Yesterday, winners in eight different categories took to the stage at the Rialto with Soul Shaper being crowned the best prototype. The winning project was submitted by the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in collaboration with the École NAD-UQAC and the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT). The winners walked away with a sense of pride, a big confidence boost, and an $8,000 scholarship. Of course, they were not the only universities to be recognized at the gala. All in all, $22,000 was given out as scholarships this year.
For this 13th edition, over 150 students had just 10 weeks to build a game prototype. With the help of 39 mentors from the Quebec studios, 19 teams battled for the favour of the jury chaired by Chadi Lebbos, VP Production Intelligence at Ubisoft Montréal :
It’s clear that Quebec universities offer some of the best video game programs in the world today. Quebec’s savoir-faire is in good hands with the next generation of students. Congratulations to all the teams for their exceptional work.” – Chadi Lebbos
At least 10 participants will receive internships and/or jobs at Ubisoft’s studios in Montreal, Quebec City, Saguenay, or Sherbrooke. A dozen of last year’s participants have already been placed in jobs.
