15-18 years old
A Ubisoft Montréal initiative, Academia is a series of programs and activities whose mission is to encourage the next generation of digital media experts by introducing the 12-25 to the video games trades and production methods through learning activities adapted to their age and education level.
Academia’s programs and activities are based on the practice and understanding of professional realities belonging to the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. They allow young people to learn the skills and abilities highly valued in the world of digital media and even to explore various aspects of this field by working in real video game production conditions.
Academia aims for excellence by encouraging students’ academic perseverance: it supports their career path and celebrates their achievements and successes. Its programs and activities are complementary to those offered by existing schools and academic institutions. They allow participants to use their creativity as well as their sense of innovation and leadership.
Academia mobilizes the private sector, public stakeholders and community in general. It works in partnership with educational institutions and is part of a creative, learning and technological environment suited to young people’s needs and practices.
At the present time, there are four programs under the Academia banner: The Base Camp (12-15 years old), the Immersion Camp (15-18 years old), the Game Lab Competition (18-25 years old) and the Summer School (18-25 years old).
Participants between 15 and 18 years old are introduced to the world of video game creators through learning activities and take part in sports and outdoor activities. They create and produce a mini-video game in 3D while learning industry techniques and software tools, such as Unity’s. They are coached by digital arts experts.
The Immersion Camp aims to develop specific skills related, especially, to creativity, leadership, time management and team work.
Every camp's cohort welcomes 20 young people for a three-week duration. At the end of the camp, each team presents their final game to parents and friends.
The Academia Immersion Camp is for students aged from 15 to 18 who are able to work on a PC. To participate, they have to complete the registration form available on this page. Please note that the form is available only during registration periods.
Selection of campers is based on eligibility criteria, information provided in the registration forms and the number of places available.
