ACADEMIA

Academia is a series of programs and activities whose mission is to encourage the next generation of digital media experts by introducing and educating young people from age 12 to 25 years old to the video games trades and production methods through learning activities based on the age and education level of participants.

Academia’s programs and activities are based on the practice and understanding of professional realities related to the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. They allow young people to learn the skills and abilities highly valued in the world of digital media and even to explore various aspects of this field by working under real video game production conditions.

Academia aims for excellence by encouraging students’ academic perseverance: it supports their career path and celebrates their achievements and successes. Its programs and activities are complementary to those offered by existing schools and academic institutions. They allow participants to use their creativity as well as their sense of innovation and leadership.

At the present time, there are four programs under the Academia banner: The Ubisoft Base Camp (12-15 years old), the Ubisoft Immersion Camp (15-18 years old), the Ubisoft Game Lab Competition (18-25 years old) and the Ubisoft Summer School (18-25 years old). Academia is a Ubisoft Montreal’s initiative managed the Human Resources Department.

DESCRIPTION OF THE UBISOFT BASE CAMP

The Ubisoft Base Camp brings participants to discover the process behind the creation and production of a video game by creating and producing a boardgame. Participants take part in a creative workshop and conferences and use the Toon Boom technology under the supervision of experts in the digital arts.

The Ubisoft Base Camp aims to encourage the development of leadership, project management and team work in participants.

Every camp's cohort welcomes 20 young people for a one-week duration. At the end of the camp, each team present their final game to parents and friends.
